San Angelo Schools Foundation Awards More Than $92,000 in Grants to San Angelo ISD

The San Angelo Schools Foundation (SASF) awarded $92,014 in Grants to Teachers last month, fueling creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning across San Angelo ISD classrooms. Grants were awarded to 72 educators and eight all-campus projects, impacting 20 campuses districtwide.

“We are truly grateful for the ongoing support of the San Angelo Schools Foundation,” said Shannon Schwartz, executive director of communications for San Angelo ISD. “Because of their generosity through the Grants to Teachers initiative, our educators are able to bring creative, hands-on, and impactful learning experiences to life in our classrooms. These grants directly benefit our students and make it possible for our incredible Difference Makers to do what they do best—help every student thrive.”

Established in 1989, the SASF exists to support innovative academic opportunities for SAISD students. Each year, the Foundation focuses its efforts on two major initiatives – Grants to Teachers and Scholarships to Students – and recently introduced its new Bright Ideas Initiative, an additional avenue of support open to SAISD employees and nonprofit organizations.

Expanding Opportunities for Students

The Grants to Teachers program provides both classroom and campus-wide grants designed to enrich instruction and enhance student learning. For more than three decades, SASF has funded a diverse range of projects that expand enrichment opportunities, promote student well-being, and elevate educational experiences across the district. This year’s funded projects continue that legacy, bringing new tools and learning experiences to SAISD students. Awards supported STEM and robotics materials, hands-on science and art resources, podcasting and media equipment, classroom libraries and musical instruments, and technology enhancements such as headphones, tablets, and translating devices. Several grants addressed flexible seating, sensory and self-regulation tools, and social-emotional learning supports, ensuring classrooms meet the varied needs of students. Additional projects included garden and pond revitalization, PE and wellness resources, field trip funding, and supplies for classroom transformations, maker programs, market days, and family engagement activities. Together, these grant-funded initiatives foster environments where students can explore, create, move, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Bringing Innovative Ideas to Life

To apply for funding, SAISD teachers and campuses submit proposals outlining imaginative, learner-centered ideas aligned with SAISD’s learner profile attributes. The Foundation reviews all submissions and selects awardees whose projects will most meaningfully enrich student experiences. Through these grants, educators bring their visions to life—creating engaging, real-world learning opportunities for students across the district.
